New tourist bus plan in Rome effective from 1st January 2019

The City of Rome has finally approved the new plan for the Traffic Zones in the city centre, as anticipated in 2016.

It is not be possible for tourist coaches to enter the BUS C Limited Traffic Zone in the centre anymore. The Zone C refers to the historical centre and includes an important part of the main attractions. Coaches are not allowed to reach any hotels, venues or restaurants located in Zone C, not even for pick up/drop off. They are not allowed anymore to drive past the Colosseum and the Roman Forums, through Piazza Venezia or along the Lungotevere eastern side, at any time pf the day or of the night.

This applies to LDCs and local coaches bigger than 8 seaters, no exceptions.

The available parking areas around the Zone C have been increased, but the vehicles authorised to stop in the Colosseum and Vatican areas are very limited.

For us and our Partners, this means that we have to be a little bit more careful in the planning of our itineraries in Rome, especially considering that the drop off/pick up in front of some of the central attractions is now forbidden.

Here below the list of the new drop/pick points with average distances:

Via Ludovisi for:
Spagna Square (850m)
Trevi Fountain (950m)
Barberini Square (400m)

Lungotevere Marzio for:
Pantheon (650m)
Navona Square (600m)

Viale Giorgio Washington for:
Popolo Square (300m)

For the Colosseum, the nearest drop/pick points are now Via Claudia (300m ca), Via dei Cerchi (750m ca), Circo Massimo (700m ca).

Our Transport Department and our Operation Team in Rome have been working together in the last months in order to reduce the impact on our itineraries and deliver the usual level of quality. Our offices are at your disposal for any further information you may need.
