Shakespeare’s Globe – much more than a theatre

Are you planning an itinerary to London and looking for some truly Britishness to surprise your clients? We think we have the right suggestion for you.

Right in the heart of London, just a few steps from St. Paul’s Cathedral, it is easy to spot the Globe Theatre, a loyal reconstruction of the original theatre where Shakespeare in person performed during the 17th century. The original Globe was demolished in 1644 and rebuilt in a slightly different location in the 90s, thanks to the commitment of the American actor Sam Wanamaker.

Today the Globe is not just a theatre; it is a full experience that you cannot have anywhere else.

Other than the opportunity to book group tickets for the different performances running through the summer, from late April to early October, it is also possible to book guided tours of the theatre and the Bankside. Expert guides will take the visitors to a fascinating tour through history, telling stories about the original 1600s theatre and about London during Shakespeare’s time.

And why do not combine the tour with a live demonstration! Using original props and costumes from the Globe Theatre, the guides will explain the complexity of the dressing and the significance of clothing in Elizabethan society. Or they will show the stage combat techniques used by Shakespeare and his contemporaries.

After the tour, the group can have a delicious lunch (or dinner) in the Swan Restaurant. Its beautiful modern dining rooms have a stunning view on the River Thames, the Millennium Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral, and they can be booked for private events.

If you want to book a 100% British experience, the Globe also offers the possibility to combine the guided tour with a themed afternoon tea, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream afternoon tea”, served at the Swan.

But this is not all: the space beneath the theatre is a beautiful event space with dedicated entrance, high ceiling and built-in stage that can be booked for parties up to 350 guests!
