Amsterdam City Council has approved a further increase starting from the 1st January 2020.
On top of the tourist tax (the most expensive in Europe, already) charged to every tourist spending the night in Amsterdam, from 2020 a fixed-amount increase of €3 per person per night will apply to all hotel accommodations.
Overnight guests will then have to pay 7% tax on net room rate + €3 per night if they want to stay in the popular Dutch city.
The adoption of the new policy has been confirmed by the City Council in July, despite the protests of the Dutch Hotel and Restaurant Association.
This is just the last measure against overtourism, while Amsterdam has been overcrowded by visitors in the last 2 years.
We will keep monitoring the situation with our partners and post further updates as soon as they are available.
