The Municipality of Venice has now published the 2020 stamp calendar of the landing contribution rate that will be introduced from the 1st July.
The tax would apply to tourists arriving by coach, cruise ship, water taxi, plane, or train. It will also apply to islands in the Venetian lagoon, such as Murano and Burano.
It has now been clarified on which days the contribution will be higher because of the significant number of visitors expected on the Island:
- Base rate (Green stamp) is €3.00 per person per day
- Critical dates rate (Red stamp) is €6.00 per person per day and will apply on 25/07 – 01/08 – 08/08 – 22/08 – 29/08/2020
- Extremely critical dates rate (Black stamp) is €8.00 per person per day and will apply on 15/08/20
Cruise ship passengers will pay €5 all days of the year in 2020.
Visitors staying at hotels in the Municipality area (including Mestre) and who pay the overnight tourist/city tax would not be charged. Children under 6 years old are also exempt.
The rates are valid for 2020 only. The Council has already announced that they will be reviewed for 2021.
The introduction of the new tax was already announced at the beginning of the 2019. The reasons behind this decision are the need to regulate the number of tourists in the already over-crowded Island and use the money raised to maintain infrastructure such as pavements, canal banks, bridges and for cleaning and waste removal operations.
